The Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association Limited (UWEAL), the Uganda national FEMCOM Chapter, convened its Annual Member Interface Day on 24th June 2017 in Kampala, Uganda. For this year’s event, UWEAL adopted the theme “Certification of our Products to Access Regional Market” which was intended to realize FEMCOM’s objective on creating an enabling environment for effective participation of women in the Common Market trade and development activities.

The interface day was attended by over 250 women entrepreneurs from Uganda. During the official opening ceremony, Dr. Gudula Naiga Baraza, the chairperson of UWEAL emphasized on the need for women entrepreneurs to improve the quality of products and services for them to access the regional markets.

Mrs. K. Ichoya, CEO of FEMCOM called on the UWEAL/ FEMCOM members to take advantage of the brimming market opportunities in the COMESA region in various sectors such as agri-business, service, mining, finance, ICT and innovations etc. Some members of FEMCOM showcased their products and services which included handcrafts, textiles and garments, leather goods, organic products, finance and credit products, agricultural products, ICT products and services.

Uganda FEMCOM Chapter is in a process of developing a business incubator for women entrepreneurs. The organisation has already accessed and fenced 3 acres of land where the office blocks for the business incubators will be constructed.
