AWEP (African Women Entrepreneurship Program) Malawi was launched at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on Friday, January 25, 2013
As a collaborative partner, FEMCOM fully supports AWEP Malawi which aims to provide business opportunities for women entrepreneurs, identify markets and financing, link businesses, provide training and mentorship, and organize events for networking and dissemination of information.
“AWEP is a United States Department of State Initiative launched in July 2010 with the primary objective of achieving greater participation of women entrepreneurs in the economies of Africa. Further, AWEP seeks greater contributions by women in governance and in policy and decision making. The initiative supports the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) which aims to improve business environment and promote U.S.-Africa trade”.
“AWEP membership will be through associations, cooperatives, Apex groups and individuals operating on a large scale and which employ or have capacity to employ over 20 women or youth. This will encourage accelerated development of small and medium enterprises. AWEP will launch 15 Malawian business groups in visual and performing arts, fashion design and agribusiness” (http://lilongwe.usembassy.gov/pressreleases5/awep-program-launched.html)
